Something about Cordeyceps sinensis mycelium

Ophiocordyceps sinensis formerly known as cordyceps sinensis is an endangered species in China right now since there have been many people over-collected it. And it has too much of its own heavy metal residues,Arsenic in particular.

Some mushrooms can’t be cultivated artificially(such as chaga, cordyceps sinensis) , while some fruiting body has extremely high content of heavy metal residues in their fruiting body(like Agaricus blazei and Cordyceps sinensis). So the process of mycelium fermentation is carried out as a substitute goods of mushroom’s fruiting body.
Normally, the life cycle of a mushroom is from spores — hyphae —mycelium —- fruiting body .

Mycelium is the vegetative part of the fungus that grows underground and is made up of a network of thread-like structures called hyphae. And there are some metabolites of fungus in its mycelium biomass.
We use a strain of cordyceps sinensis which’s name is Paecilomyces hepiali. It is an entomophagous fungus. Based on 18S rDNA sequencing, this species is distinct from Ophiocordyceps sinensis.——-https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paecilomyces_hepiali

Paecilomyces hepiali (formerly known as Cordyceps sinensis) is a type of fungus that is commonly used in traditional Chinese medicine. One way it is processed is through fermentation, which involves using specialized equipment and controlled conditions to grow the fungus and create a desired end product.

During the fermentation process of Paecilomyces hepiali, the fungus is cultured in a nutrient-rich solution or substrate, such as rice or soybeans, under specific temperature and humidity conditions. The fermentation process allows the fungus to produce and release various beneficial compounds, such as polysaccharides, mannitol and adenosine.

Fermented Paecilomyces hepiali is often used as a dietary supplement in capsule or powder form, and is believed to have various health benefits, such as boosting the immune system, reducing inflammation, improving cardiovascular health, and increasing energy and endurance. However, more research is needed to fully understand the potential health benefits and risks associated with the use of fermented Paecilomyces hepiali.
The substrates Organic yeast extract and powder, and some mineral salts. And the powders are processed by drying and grinding after the mycelium has grown up.(fully covered on the substrates)
